🧑‍🏫 Micro-Teaching Laboratory
The Micro-Teaching Laboratory is a specialized facility dedicated to developing the instructional and communication skills of our students and faculty. In the medical field, the ability to clearly and effectively explain complex concepts—whether to patients, peers, or junior colleagues—is a critical professional skill. This lab provides a controlled environment to practice, refine, and master those skills.
A Focus on Practical Skill Development
The lab is designed around the "micro-teaching" methodology, which involves a cycle of practice and feedback:
Practice: An individual delivers a short, focused lesson (a "micro-lesson") to a small group in a simulated setting.
Record: The entire session is captured using state-of-the-art audiovisual (A/V) recording equipment.
Review: The individual, along with peers and faculty facilitators, immediately reviews the recording to analyze the performance.
Key Features of the Lab
Controlled Environment: A dedicated, sound-insulated space that simulates a small classroom, tutorial, or patient consultation setting, allowing for practice without distraction.
Advanced A/V System: Equipped with high-quality cameras and sensitive microphones to clearly capture the presenter's verbal delivery, non-verbal cues, and interaction with the audience.
Observation & Playback Station: Features large monitors and clear audio for detailed playback and analysis. This allows for constructive, evidence-based feedback on presentation style, content clarity, and engagement techniques.
Iterative Learning: This "practice, record, review" cycle is the core of the lab. It enables presenters to identify strengths and weaknesses and immediately apply feedback in subsequent practice sessions, leading to rapid skill improvement.
By providing this dedicated space for structured practice and expert feedback, the Micro-Teaching Laboratory plays a crucial role in building the confidence and competence of our future medical professionals as both educators and communicators.
