Dr. Sharmin Akter completed her secondary (SSC, 2007) and higher secondary (HSC, 2009) education at Police Lines School and College, Rangpur, achieving the highest GPA of 5.00 in the Science group for both. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Rajshahi Medical College. She subsequently pursued specialized postgraduate training in Pathology, completing her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program at BIRDEM General Hospital (BIRDEM Academy) in 2019. Dr. Akter is a registered physician with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC Registration No: A76712) and currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology.
Dr. Sharmin Akter is an accomplished pathologist and dedicated educator currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at KYAMCH. She holds an M.B.B.S. degree from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and has MD degree in Pathology from BIRDEM General Hospital. Has significant hands-on experience in laboratory services, diagnostic pathology, and hospital-based clinical rotations, including emergency and casualty departments. She is skilled in histopathology, cytology, and laboratory management, with a strong emphasis on diagnostic accuracy and interdisciplinary collaboration. Committed to both academic and clinical excellence, she actively contributes to pathology education, student mentorship, and nationwide health initiatives. Fluent in Bengali and English, she brings precise communication skills, a detail-oriented approach, and a deep sense of professional responsibility to her practice. She is a registered physician with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC No: A76712) and continues to advance the field of pathology through teaching, service, and compassionate care.
Dr. Sharmin Akter is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at KYAMCH, where she heads academic instruction and oversees laboratory services. Her clinical training includes residency in Pathology at BIRDEM General Hospital and an internship at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. She has served as a Medical Officer in the Emergency and Casualty departments of several hospitals, including Islami Bank Medical College Hospital and Insaf Barakah Kidney & General Hospital, and previously worked as a Senior Registrar in Laboratory Services at KYAMCH. Dr. Akter is actively involved in pathology practice, teaching, and national health campaigns.
Dr. Akter's research interests are centered on advancing diagnostic pathology and its clinical applications. Key areas of focus include:
· Cytopathological techniques for early detection and diagnosis.
· The pathology of common infectious diseases prevalent in the region.
· Investigating the pathogenesis and diagnostic markers of common cancers, such as cervical and breast carcinoma.
· Digital pathology and the integration of artificial intelligence in diagnostic workflows.
· Innovations in medical education and competency-based training methodologies for pathology.
Her work aims to bridge laboratory findings with clinical outcomes to improve diagnostic precision, patient management strategies, and pathology education.
· Active participation in national and international pathology conferences and CME programs, including International PATHCON 2024, Neuropathology CME 2024, and National Conventions of Bangladesh Academy of Pathology.
· Poster Presentation Award – Awarded of poster presentation at the International Conference of Pathology, 2025, Bangladesh about primary plasmacytoma of lymph node.
· Academic Excellence – Recognized for outstanding performance during postgraduate residency in Pathology at BIRDEM General Hospital.
